History

Caney Creek Municipal Utility District, located in the “Sargent” area of Matagorda County, was created on July 26, 1978. The District is a coastal community located generally along Caney Creek for about 15 miles northly from its discharge into the Gulf of Mexico at the east end of Matagorda Bay and about 75 miles southwest of the Houston metropolitan area. The District is governed by the Board of Directors, consisting of five directors, which has management control over and management supervision of all affairs of the District. Directors are elected to serve four-year staggered terms.
